One of the questions that we’ve had most often since finishing off Club Jupiter is how people can start their own caravan makeover. As many of you know, we’ve started working closely with Willerby – the UK’s leading holiday home manufacturer – to share some tips and tricks of how we gave ours a new lease of life.
While our little lady was a secondhand number, the new models are a lot more versatile for bringing your own personality, without having to rip everything out. Thankfully, our very own interior stylist, Emma Jane Palin is on hand to offer her expert advice. Here’s five of her favourite tips for giving your caravan a mini makeover without breaking the bank.
Adding cushions in various different shapes, textures, colours and sizes will help to create an intimate and cosy vibe, and will instantly lift your space. Emma advises changing things up as the seasons come and go; silks and linens are perfect for summer while velvet and knitted styles will retain heat in the winter. Purchase cheaper cushion covers but splurge on the inserts with styles that will stay plump and allow you to sink in for a restful night in front of the TV.
Plants add life to a space, even if they’re faux, so don’t be afraid to mix and match the real deal with a little bit of plastic. Choose varieties that don’t require much water and like a bit of humidity to ensure they stay alive – snake plants and ivy are perfect low maintenance options. You can also have fun with plant pots, opting for hanging styles made of rattan, or beautiful ceramics that will make your living situation a little more luxe.
Art and decor add your personality to a space, so don’t be afraid to explore your true self here. At Club Jupiter, we paid local artist, Daisy Emerson, to design our bespoke Palm Springs style and we couldn’t be more obsessed. If you don’t want to drill holes in your walls, Command Strips are a great alternative. Another design to take inspiration from is the cork wall in our smaller bathroom. We used self-adhesive cork tiles so that our guests could leave us notes and pictures. It’s one of our favourite parts of the caravan and shows off all of the good parts of Club Jupiter!
Light fixtures in new build caravans can be quite basic and neutral, not necessarily a style you would choose for yourself, so why not change them up? A simple shade change can make all the difference, or you can hire an electrician relatively cheaply if you wanted something more dramatic. A light above the table or kitchen island will make it feel more intimate and expensive.
Our final tip is to really focus on the window dressings in your space. A simple switchover to curtains or a textured blind can really make your space feel wildly different. At Club Jupiter, we opted for soft voiles and textured rattan blinds in our living space to really add to that airy and bright feel. In contrast, the bedrooms were a chance to go wild with curtain walls, fringed numbers and velvet blinds!
